I've Lost My Taste for People
I've told you many times over the past 16 years that I'm a faithful devotee of People Magazine. The big news is this. I've decided I'm no longer going to subscribe or read the magazine. I think I've outgrown the trend (keep in mind this "trend" began twenty-two years ago). There are so many more photos than stories that the magazine almost seems geared towards non-readers and youth-based material that doesn't appeal to me.
As Herman and I discussed this, we agree that there used to be five or six stories and features per issue worth reading. Now there are sometimes only one or two readable stories and I have to search for those.
I used to religiously bring all of the People Magazines to the Wells House where I receive physical therapy. I would give the magazines to my physical therapist Robin, who really enjoyed reading them as much as I did. From Robin the magazines would be passed around to the other physical therapists and ultimately to the residences of the Wells House. So to say the very least the magazine certainly made its rounds.
I have gone back to reading books instead of magazines. Right now, I'm reading a book by Jane Lynch called "A Memoir: Happy Accidents" with a forward by Carol Burnett.
Jane Lynch is one of the stars of Foxe’s television show "Glee." She plays a hilarious Sue Sylvester who is a high school cheerleading coach. She is sharp-tongued, smart and sassy. I get the same energy from her written words in the book. She speaks from the heart and I find her as enjoyable in print as I do on television.
I'm about fifty pages into the book so far and I eagerly anticipate the next two hundred and fifty pages. I will give you guys my full review when I'm done.
Speaking of which, I'm not having a great track recorder with finishing books lately. I started a book by Simon Cowell called "I don't mean to be rude but..." a couple years ago and I'm not done with it yet. Let me tell you why, I would get so far into a chapter and alas my weekly People Magazine would show up. I would read the magazine instead of the book, so you see how this has come full circle! I’ll let you know whether my book reading improves.
