Face to Face with Facebook

For years I've resisted doing anything with social networks such as Facebook, but this past week at Terry's suggestion I investigated this option as it opened up a whole new world to me.

I signed up with the assistance of my other aid Tahea who is "fluent in Facebook," as she's been using it for years.

She signed me up and I quickly found myself intrigued.

I went to my sister's Facebook page where I found family and friends I could contact.

It's very different from email or my website, because it connects with those who are willing to be "friended."

We did this on Herman's iPad and I was fascinated to see the touch screen feature where Tahea actually preferred the onscreen keyboard to the bluetooth keyboard Herman prefers.

Listen to me use these terms like "touchscreen" and "bluetooth" as if I know what I'm talking about ("LOL")! ie. Laugh out loud, not "lots of love" as Herman said he first thought LOL stood for.

Anyway, one of the first postings on my "wall" on Facebook was from Jason Mraz, one of my favorite singers, because I listed him as a favorite and so automatically got a video of him singing a Mother's Day song off the cuff in Paris where he is apparently currently touring.

Then there were all the people who said "finally" to my joining Facebook as well as old friends who contacted me and I haven't heard from in awhile.

I can now post photos, thoughts, columns, links and comments like those I make here to you, my readers and anyone who wants to can join in. This is a new experience for me and I feel like a newborn just making my way in a new world.

Herman just told me Facebook is going public this week with stock offerings estimated at $100 billion, more than Disney or Kraft Foods is worth--who would have ever guessed such a thing. In just eight years, Mark Zuckerberg has become a multi-billionaire and created a whole new way for people to interact.
