    A Taste for Reading

So I’m once again in quest of a new author to intrigue me. I can’t say that I like romance novels per se, but I do like a good love story. Finding a book that has all the elements that interest me is becoming increasingly difficult.

I generally go to the Johnstown Public Library in this county as they are handicapped accessible including an elevator. The staff is very helpful, especially in making suggestions for who to read next. Trouble is, no two people have the same tastes in reading.

Now, take Herman for instance. He likes a good mystery, but has lately gotten into a kick of Napoleonic era seafaring stories by Patrick O’Brian since seeing the movie “Master and Commander” which was made from the first in the series. Herman is like me in that he likes to keep reading an author if he finds a book he likes.

As we are closing in on the milder months, I’m less inclined to pick up a book. There’s something about cold weather and a warm fireplace with a good book that really intrigues me.

I’ve most recently read two books by Kristin Hannah that I really enjoyed. If any of you know that author and similar authors to her style, please let me know. You can email me at spira@nycap.rr.com and let me know.

Of course, sometimes an author can fool you. I read a book by Harlan Cobin and thought I’d like more of his stuff, but was not so impressed by his other books I took out from the library. Herman says the same thing happened to him with Janet Evanovich. He liked her “One For The Money” series (currently up to “Ten Big Ones”) but was disappointed by her other efforts.

I found myself reading more during the last week in February as my aide, Terry was on vacation. So it was just Herman and me. And since we both like to read, we found ourselves passing the time that way.
