    My TV Pet Connection

So after all the years of my trying to get on television as an actress out in Hollywood and New York City, it’s ironic to me that my name is now on TV on a weekly basis.

    Let me explain.

I’ve been an avid watcher of ABC News 10 and about a year ago I became a weather watcher.  Meteorologist Steve Caporizzo lost his weather watcher by the name of Woody Walter in Caroga Lake when Woody sadly passed away. I volunteered for the job, since I have a digital weather station mounted on my house.

So every evening by 5:30 p.m. I e-mail Steve the temperature and weather conditions and he posts them along with other weather watchers around the area. He mentions my name and “it’s up in lights” on the TV screen regularly along with the others.

He has contributors in Gloversville, Indian Lake and other capital district communities and we each get a mention on an irregular rotation.

I am a die-hard devotee of Channel 10 news, going back to the Peter Jennings years and now with Charley Gibson. But back to Steve.

We share a love of animals as well, and his special charity that he promotes is for pet shelters and adoption called “Pet Connection.”

This is one of my favorite segments he does.

I already have two cats (Sam and Sally) and my Dalmatian Moxie. So even though I am drawn to the animals who need adoption, I can’t take in any more. But when he asked for help with the local animal shelter needs, I had to pass this on. He often shares personal asides in his e-mail responses to me, and this week he said:

    “Kathryn,

Can you help me out.  Spread the word.

The Tri-City Valley Cats....a local professional baseball team is having a bobble head contest between all the [meteorologists] in this TV market. I need your vote. If we can win.....I get to shake my head up and down for hours...but more importantly we get $500 to help the homeless animals. to vote go to their web site.....
    www.tcvalleycats.com
    Thanks for your support !
    Steve”

So, this really intrigues me in that all the local networks are participating and proceeds will go to each of their favorite charities.

I went to the Web site and made my choice and I encourage you to do the same. Of course, my wish is that you will each vote for Steve, as I did.

It’s nice to see my name on TV, but it will be even nicer if we can alleviate some of the pets who need homes in the area.

    Thanks, you guys.
